 When stored in a dry environment, its available chlorine content drops by only 1% over one year.

During hydrolysis, TCCA releases almost all of its chlorine as hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Hypochlorous acid is a strong oxidizer that kills pathogens by 

oxidizing and denaturing their proteins.

At the same concentration, the germicidal efficiency of hypochlorous acid is 80–100 times higher than that of hypochlorite salts

 (such as sodium hypochlorite – liquid bleach, or calcium hypochlorite – bleaching powder).

Thanks to the cyano group in its molecular structure, TCCA gradually releases hypochlorous acid in water and stabilizes the available chlorine. 

This unique structural characteristic gives TCCA a sustained efficacy that liquid bleach lacks. Long-lasting disinfection is exactly what pool water treatment requires.

Practical Use Considerations

When using TCCA powder for pool disinfection, it must first be dissolved into a solution before being added to the water – a relatively inconvenient process with limited dosage control.
